Robert C. Northfield, NCARB, RA
principal

Bob joined BCT in 2013 and leads the Retail/Mixed-Use Studio, which includes master planning and urban design, and where much of the firm’s work begins.  With more than 27 years of experience, Bob has worked both domestically and globally on a variety of commercial projects including retail, town centers, hospitality, workplace, residential, and large scale mixed-use developments. He is involved in all aspects of the design process, from initial feasibility and concept phases, through schematic and design development.

An architect who values the design process, Bob understands that client interaction, client servicing, and design management are tools used to nurture projects to fruition. His ability to orchestrate a passion for design, with a thorough understanding of critical components, such as planning,  merchandising, materials, and experiential placemaking, enables him to create dynamic yet "authentic" solutions.  Bob derives his greatest professional satisfaction from exceeding client expectations, and achieving real, lasting results which are aesthetically pleasing and financially profitable for his clients.

Prior to joining BCT, Bob was a Partner with DDG (Development Design Group), managing multiple large scale, vertically integrated mixed-use projects which span the globe. Bob has traveled to, and conducted business in, over 29 different countries. As an avid traveler, Bob values the cultural, social and business practices in today's global markets.

He graduated from the University of Cincinnati, School of Architecture in 1987 and is currently a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

"It's all about designing, planning, thinking, creating,
collaborating and making."
